The Crime and Safety Index, due to be launched in September, will rank the level of security by the rate and propensity of crimes that occur in every State of Nigeria, and look at the State with worst offenders. Behind the statistics of the index is the daily reality of what citizens live with in their respective States. It also represents the safest places to live in the country.
The Index seeks to bring the crimes that occur in hidden places to the public purview and to the knowledge of public officials. This is with the aim of reflecting the relationship between the stated policy on safety and security, and the actual reality on ground.
It will also give way for better analysis in order to serve as guide to law enforcement agencies and internal defence policy makers so as to ensure proper development of mechanism that will guarantee the safety and security of citizens.
